Ghostbusters 2016 Review

Last night I was lucky enough to see a preview showing of the new Ghostbusters film, my eldest daughter was very excited as she’d had her eye on this film ever since the trailers started.

I on the hand was sceptic about it, I’m a huge fan of the older films (as are most) and my fear was this was going to be just another remake, after all how could they live up to the originals?

There are a lot of nay sayers out there just because the cast are female which I think is unfair, in no way is it an anti-men which I’ve heard a couple of times it can be enjoyed by everyone.

Be aware that thereally may be spoilers ahead, don’t say I didn’t warn you:

This modern take on our much loved Ghostbusters films is a must see for all and you will be suprised by how much you enjoy it.

I’d say from 8 up is perfect age if your taking your kids but obviously younger if your kids are tough.

The cast each have the perfect roles, Melissa Mccarthy brings her effortless comedy to the film without going overboard. Kristen Wiig is a little more serious (but not too much) , the yin to Mccarthy’s yang. Kate Mckinnon is awesome she’s basically that friend you have that says whatever she’s thinking with some added crazy and Leslie jones completes the girls with her down to earth humour even though her encounters with ghosts should have her running for the hills.

Of course you can’t forget the dim receptionist Kevin (played by Chris Hemsworth) which brought a lot of laughs to the table.

The story of course unfolds with a haunting but as you’ll see from watching the film these random hauntings are not what they seem.

My favourite bit was having cameos from our beloved Ghostbusters,  Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, unfortunately one short RIP Harold Ramis. There was also an appearance from slimer, the original receptionist played by Annie Potts  and the original haunted lady herself Sigourney Weaver.

It’s a great story line with ups and downs and laughs along the way. Don’t be put of by it been different from the original or bad reviews, you will enjoy it. Decide for yourself 😊
