Every woman has those little wonder products in their makeup bag, the mascara that lengthens your eyelashes, the lip gloss that gives you fuller lips and all these help us achieve our daily look.
But what if you don’t have anything but 15 mins to get ready in the morning, concealing and contouring will take too much of that time and you can’t leave the house with only half a face on. Whether your a mum on the school run, in a rush to beat traffic to get to work or trying to recover from a night out Benefit Puff Off! Will help you out.
Benefit Puff Off! Is an eye gel that instantly smooths puffiness under the eyes. The gel itself is peach coloured and has only a slight fragrance. If you’ve used Benefit products before such as Benefit Eyecon or Benefit Its potent then you’ll love this little wonder. Not only does it smooth puffy tired eyes but will also smooth out fine lines and creases. It can be used alone or under makeup.
Personally I use this when I’m short for time in the mornings or running a little late for the school run. It’s suprising how much of a difference it makes, I use it along side Benefit It’s potent eye cream which is a brightening cream that fades dark circles. I like that the formula is light, cooling to the skin and you only need a little for each eye so a little really does go a long way. The photo above show you just how little you need to use to achieve results.
I received a sample of this product from latest in beauty, I had to go digging for more information on the product before I actually used it as no information came in the box.
This multi-tasking translucent foundation which will leave your skin with a dewy glow. It comes in two shades that can be used separately or combined together to get your perfect complection match.
No Foundation Foundation diffuses imperfections, corrects skin undertones and minimises the apperance of fine lines and pores over time with regular use of course.Extra bonuses are it is mineral based and has SPF30.
When I first put this on my skin I wasn’t quite sure the colour matched my skin but with minimal effort the colour adapted to my skin tone. I was left with bright, youthful looking skin but I’m not use to havinh glowing skin and to me my skin just looked oily. This calmed down after a while and it looked more natural so if there are any other girls with oily skin reading this, give it a chance first. Its a good product but it wasn’t enough coverage to me, Its light coverage and I prefer a little bit more. Also even though the product is unperfumed I could smell the product, I find this with some products and have ended up just not been able to use them because I don’t like been able to smell it all through the day. It wasn’t unpleasant but it wasn’t nice either.
Overall I would use this product but not on a daily basis for the reasons above. I think I’ll stick to my foundation for this one.
It’s been over 2 years since I last ordered a Glossy Box due to disappointment in not getting the products I wanted and having products piling up around me I knew it was time for a break. I’ve kept up with the products going out each month but nothing really caught my attention enough to grab another box until I saw that the July box was American products. How could I say no this was the perfect box for me especially if I got the products I wanted.
The products are recieved are exactly what I wanted and I will be using them over the next week so I can give you a full review of each product.
If you have not yet recieved your box and don’t want to know what the contents could be then please don’t read any lower.
Here are the contents I recieved in my July Glossy Box:
Bellapierre Cosmetics Ltd – Mineral Lipstick
A beautiful mineral lipstick in the colour Ruby (I love my Red Lipstick), an american favourite they are made using natural waxes, mineral pigments and antioxidants including Vitamin C and E. The results are long lasting colour with protection from the sun. Worth £20 and a full size product.
ABSOLUTE New York – Perfecting Eyeshadow Primer
I was hoping for this product as I’d just come to the last of my Urban Decay primer potion and even though I would happily buy more theres nothing like a new product to test. This oil-free, ultra-creamy formula is said to even out skin tone around the eye area and keeps your eyeshadow crease-free as well and keeping the colour as it should be. Worth $4.99 full size product, my only worry is how to get hold of it if I like it that much.
Carmex -Lip Balm
A product loved by many people including celebrities and makeup artists. Carmex is the perfect lip balm to soothe dry lips, with menthol, camphor and beeswax. This product should leave your lips nourished, conditioned and protected from the elements. I’ve been thinking of buying this for a while but always buy my normal lip balm now I have no excuse. Worth £2.69 full size product.
Colour Club Nail Varnish – Glossy Seal
Colour Club Nail varnish is made in New York with only non-toxic, cruelty free ingredients. The colour Glossy Seal has been formulated just for Glossy Box. $8.00 full size product.
Tarte – Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara
A mascara that lengthens, curls, volumises and condtions for healthy longer lashes. Dermatologist and clinically proven to increase the appearance of lash volume. £19.50 for 7ml.
That’s my line up and I’m looking forward to a week of testing these products, look out for the reviews.
Its a been almost a year maybe just under since my last post and a lot has happened since then. As you will all remember I got married last October and what me and Mr.Retro found out not long after was we were expecting our 3rd child. So the last year has been mostly filled with growing bigger, clothes not fitting and finding time for sleep was far more important than putting my make up on. I guess that sounds bad loving my make up as much as I do but thats what pregnancy did to me.
Since our little boy was born in June I have been trying to lose the weight I gained during pregnancy, I managed to slim down for my wedding but getting the weight off this time seems to be harder. It took my wedding to motivate me last time and Id had two pregnancies before that so the last couple of weeks I have been trying to decide what are the best things for me. Fitting exercise around 3 very busy kids and normal day to day life is very tough. The best thing to do I’ve found (which sounds so cliche) is drink water whenever you can, exercise whenever you can, don’t make working out a chore (Zumba is Great fun), eating loads of fruit and veg and radiate confidence (even if your faking it).
Which leads me to the title of this post, I never quite understood the phrase “Beauty From Within” when I was younger, in my teens it was simple black or white you were either pretty or you were not. When you enter your late teens to early 20s this is when most people will basically stand up to the world and say this is me either like it or go away. Now I’m in my late 20s I think I’m finally understanding what it means. Its not all about the make up you wear, everybody has body hang ups even the people you think are perfect have things they dislike about themselves. Its that little bit of concealer, red lippy, favourite top or skirt that can make us feel beautiful and when we feel beautiful we look beautiful. For any Castle fans, Martha (Castles Mum) got it spot on, everyone sees something wrong with their body be it a wobbly belly or flat bum and we spend the rest of our lives trying to find that happiness with ourselves we had as a child, the age of innocence that all it took was a plastic tiara and a tutu (or princess dress) to feel beautiful.
What works for you?, What’s that one thing that makes you feel beautiful no matter what?
After the success of last months Lux Box I can’t wait to see what they have for us this month, while last months box had a bit of everything ranging from make up to face cleanser to body exfoliator and even a teeth cleanser, what are you expecting to be in this months box?
I am so pleased with this months box, I love every single item in it and can’t wait to try them all. If you don’t want to know whats in the box then look away now.
Inside The Box
Inika Ceritfied Organic Eye Liner : Peacock Blue– I originally recieved a black eye liner in my GlossyBox a couple of months back and wasn’t too fond on it but I love the colour of this one and I will definitely give it a go. The eye liner is rich in colour and gentle which according to them has real staying power. I’ve already tested how the eye liner intensives with a sweep of eye shadow over the top.. you have to try it.
Gatineau Essential Skin Corrector – A thick luxurious cream which is said to smooth out first signs of wrinkles and improve the radiance and comfort of your skin. The brand is well known for its advancements in anti-ageing and their skincare range offers an anti-ageing shield that offers complete protection internally and externally. Its to be used morning and evening so I’ll report back after a week to tell you my findings, I’ve already tried it once this morning.
Magnifibres : Brush On False Lashes – I can’t wait to try this I’m interested how good the false eye lash effect will be, its a simple concept which you can use with your favourite mascaras. Just apply one coat of your mascara, a coat of the brush on false lashes and then another coat of your mascara… simple but how affective is it?
BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream – The Gold Caviar BB Cream is said to be multi functional as its great for anti-ageing, lightening , sun protection as it has SPF50, wrinkle repair, cover and moistursing. Can one BB cream do all this?. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to tell with the two small sachet samples but I’ll try my best of course. It’s made from real caviar extracts which doesn’t sounds too pleasing but I’ll give it a try.
Yana Cosmetics Foundation – A lightweight creamy foundation which I have been really looking forward to trying and I’m wondering if I ordered a shade too light, oh well only trial will tell. It offers full coverage, an airbrush look which is suitable for all skin types. Also as if I didn’t like it so much already its also not tested on animals, non comedogenic, bendable and long lasting. I can’t wait to report my findings on this foundation.
Last months box made She Said Beauty even more popular after bowling over the competition with such an amazing box so this month everyone is bubbling over with excitement to know what they have for us and if its going to top the previous months box. What is it you’d like to be getting this month?… Perfume, Make up, Face & Body beautifiers ?
Well here is what the August Box has to offer:
Inside The Box
4711 Eau de Cologne – 4711 Original Eau de Cologne is one of Cologne’s oldest internationally famous brands or so its said I’ve personally never heard of it. For more than 200 years, it has delivered on its promise: using this unique fragrance refreshes the mind, body and soul. The secret formula for 4711 Original Eau de Cologne is still appreciated across the globe today, making this ‘aqua mirabilis’ an unparalleled classic. Comes in a cute bottle but don’t know if I’d use it.
Absolutely Flawless Nail Foils – 32 Nail Foils for Finger or Toe Nails. No Drying time. Easy to apply. No Chipping. Over 130 designs to choose from. Haven’t heard any great reports on these but would love to hear your opinions.
Balance Me Rose Otto Intensive Lip Salve – Balance Me’s new, petroleum-free, 100% natural ultra-moisturising intensive lip salve. Can be used daily to plump, protect and smooth away dry patches on lips and leave the soft. They have blended super hydrating 100% natural hyaluronic acid and highly emollient and protective pharma grade lanolin to plump and smooth; a trio of organic shea, mango and cocoa butters to soften and protect against the elements. Vitamins and essential fatty acid-laden rosehip, jojoba and virgin coconut oils to soothe and hydrate with rose otto, rose geranium and palma rosa to calm and balance. I love the Balance Me products so I can’t wait to try this.
Redken Color Extend Radiant-10 – New Color Extend Radiant-10 is Redken’s first dual-phase, color-preserving formula designed to meet the needs of color-treated hair. A combination formula of a nourishing cream with the lightness of a spray to deliver 10 transformative benefits: stronger, protected, moisturized, detangled, softened, nourished, vibrant, manageable, frizz-free, shiny. I wonder if this lives up to what it says it can do.
Nails Inc – Nail The Day – Nails inc nail polish is formulated with the latest professional technologies and are created for women who demand uncompromising quality and instant results. Fashion is at the heart of nails inc and as a result has become one of the leading brands in the UK, with an ability to switch on the latest shades and trends. I love nails inc products, they do have great colours so this wouldn’t be the first time I’ve used their products.
Papier Poudre – These Absorbent powdered face papers have been around for years. I’ve had these before in my Luxbox which I loved, what do you think of them?
White Glo Professional Choice Toothpaste – Professional Choice – Australia’s No. 1 whitening toothpaste. The original formula designed to gently lift stains and discolouration from teeth using micro-polishing particles. Hmmm toothpaste in a beauty box never tends to go down well unless its the flavoured one I tried which was amazing.
I don’t know who has seen this deal from She Said Beauty but I thought I’d share it anyway just because I’m great that way and I don’t want anyone to miss out on the awesome stuff you can fill your beauty cupboards with. So here’s your chance to get 50% off a 6 month subscription:

My LuxBox was a little late coming this month which means the independent reviews will probably run behind too as I want to properly try the products before reviewing them. This months LuxBox is a mix of skincare, make up, body care and even a little help in the teeth department. Without further delaying a look at this very nice box:
I am already in love with this months box, so many great bits n bobs to add to my growing collection of skin and make up supplies.
Inside the box this month is:
Delicious Teeth: Tooth Cleanser – A brilliant new concept in tooth cleaning, Danwood and Tanner have brought us these delicious flavoured tooth cleansers, presented in a pump bottle this is a product you don’t want to miss. There are 4 flavours to try which are Garden Mint, Brazilian Lime, Sicilian Lemon and English Peppermint. I have the English Peppermint but I seriously love it so much I wouldn’t mind trying the rest, after trying it for the last couple of days I can definitely say a better taste is an encouragement. Made with the best ingredients and most natural taste.
Kelly Edwards Skincare : Exfoliating Cream – I’m looking forward to trying this product, it smells nice and natural but so far I don’t like the look of the texture. The label says gently polishes so we’ll give it a try and see if it does just that.
Murad Time Release Blemish Cleanser – I love the Murad products so I can’t wait to try this one, I’m lucky I think my skin only breaks out maybe once a month so it will be interesting to see how this product works in that situation.
Green People : Eco Eye Trio Earth – The shades that come in this trio are very natural, very easy to make a everyday look from them, the type thats almost as if your not wearing make up. I’m looking forward to seeing the results from this Eco friendly make up.
First Aid Beauty Daily Face Cream – I’ve heard of this brand before but never tried it, since I have dry skin I’m hoping the added hydration will do me good.
A short and sweet post this month but hopefully I’ll have full reviews of these products going up soon and of course its nearly time for next box 🙂
The craze for mineral products sees no signs of slowing down if anything they are getting more popular. Although I can’t see myself converting to just mineral products there are a few gems that are worth introducing to your everyday make up kit. One of the best mineral make up companies I’ve had the pleasure of coming across is Lily Lolo and I am a huge fan of their Mineral Blush. My two favourite shades been Cherry Blossom and Doll Face.
Lily Lolo Mineral Blush comes in the cute little sifter tubs (abov)e and are perfect for getting the right amount of blush for your look without over doing it. They come in 12 shades, two which are new called Surfer Girl and Beach Babe which are perfect if your heading to the beach or abroad this summer.
To apply the blush just tip a tiny amount into the lid of the tub (a little really does go a long way), using your brush press it into the powder then tap off the excess on the side of the lid. Start applying in light strokes building to your desired colour. Simple.
The Good Points:
Matte or Shimmer Finish
12 Beautiful Shades
The Bad Points:
Tricky to use if you haven’t used it before
Easy to Spill (More Likely If you Haven’t Used it Before)
As you can see the product itself hasn’t got many downsides its more if your not familiar with using these types of products which just takes a little practice. These to shades are my favourite as they are the perfect day colours. Doll Face is a beautiful pale peach-pink with a hint of sparkle which is slightly more on the pink side and Cherry Blossom is a pale peach-pink with a shimmer which to me is a little more peachy. Perfect starter colours if its your first time.
Brush maintenance is extremely important, not just to make sure that the colour your putting on is the colour result you get but also for hygiene purposes. Cleaning your brushes properly will make sure you get the best results, minimise breakouts and make your brushes last longer which will save you money. There are two products I use both from E.L.F. cosmetics but M.A.C also do some and if your just doing the shampooing then you can even use Johnsons no tears baby shampoo which is delicate enough for your brushes.
For just a quick clean I use E.L.F. daily brush cleaner. In the morning after applying your make up just give each brush you use a couple of squirts and let them dry. Then they are ready for use the next day. For proper full maintenance make sure you wash your brushes at least once a week. I use E.L.F. Brush Shampoo at the moment in the past I used baby shampoo. Heres what to do:
Run the water until its luke warm
Once the waters right either but a little shampoo on your first brush or in the the palm of your hand
Apply a little water to the brush and swish the brush in the palm your hand (You may already see the colour been drawn out)
Rinse under the until the water runs clear
Squeeze the last bits of water out and reshape your brush (Keep your brush facing to the floor this stops the warm water running inside the top of your brush and weakening the glue that holds it together)
Once you’ve reshaped the brush lay it down on a dry towel or flannel of or towel to dry
Repeat on each brush you’ve used, let them dry over night.
That’s it, if you take care of your brushes they will last longer.
